The inaugural Trombone Day at NKU was a major hit, drawing over 100 attendees from across the region, including students, parents, professional musicians, and community members. The event featured masterclasses, performances, and a unique alumni gathering, with 10 alumni trombonists returning to campus to participate. A highlight of the day was the final concert, featuring a Mass Trombone Ensemble and guest artist Noah Roper from the Cincinnati Symphony. Roper’s solo recital was met with high praise, concluding with David Gillingham’s Sonata for Bass Trombone, attended by Gillingham himself and members of the Cincinnati Symphony brass section.
Special thanks to Professor Emeritus David Dunevant for conducting the Alumni Trombone Choir and leading a select Trombone Ensemble, as well as to sponsors S.E. Shires and Wert Music for their generous support. With attendees from more than a dozen area schools, this event has already sparked excitement for next year’s Trombone Day!
